Mercedes To Debut Four GLK Showcars at SEMA

Mercedes offers a preview of its plan for the 2008 SEMA Auto Show today, releasing renderings of four customized GLK-Class showcars designed by four different aftermarket tuners, including RennTech and Brabus.

In early November, SEMA show attendees will have the opportunity to vote for the RennTech Rally Racer, Brabus Widestar, the Urban Whip or the Four Corners Rock Crawler via online and mobile voting.

Mercedes says the RennTech Rally Racer GLK concept was inspired by the unlimited-class rally cars at the Pikes Peak Hillclimb, and features a hybrid powertrain. The Brabus Widestar is based on a GLK300 Bluetec dressed in wide front and rear wheel arches and bumpers with Brabus wheels and a customized interior.

Florida-based Boulevard Customs created the Urban Whip with a wide-body styling kit, 26-inch wheels and tires and a redesigned interior with a customized stereo system. The Four Corners Rock Crawler was designed by Legendary Motor Cars and includes a winching system for extreme sports enthusiasts.

Following the SEMA show, the four GLK showcars will be displayed at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show, offering show-goers another opportunity to vote. Votes will be tallied and the winner will be announced on December 2, 2008.
