More Ground clearance for Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series

Drivers of super sports cars such as the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG know the challenge. In more and more urban areas, road are traffic-calmed made traffic-calmed with speed bumps and even the ride into parking blocks becomes a challenge with low ground clearance. This no longer happens with the KW Hydraulic Lift System. The KW HLS 4 retrofit kit in combination with the height adjustable KW spring kit, the super sports car Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series as well as the SLS AMG can handle such everyday obstacles without any difficulties. By the push of a button, the KW development lifts the entire body up to 45 mm.

Old parking garage entries, steep driveways and ramps or speed bumps often affect the agility of modern super sport cars like the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series. Parts of the aerodynamic components or the underseal might even get damaged due to the low ground clearance. The KW hydraulic lift system lifts the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG by the push of a button. “The HLS for the SLS AMG is a vehicle-specific development adapted to the standard suspension”, says KW Product Manager Johannes Wacker. A hydraulic cylinder with KW spring is installed at each series strut. No further modifications to the standard suspension are necessary. “To lift the body by up to 45 mm takes less than ten seconds.” Another advantage of the HLS shows when driving – there is no compression of the extended cylinder unit, as it may occur in applications with bellows. Therefore no unwanted additional suspension occurs.

Even more versatility

„We have combined the KW HLS 4 with our height adjustable spring kit, in addition to the SLS AMG Black Series it is also available for the SLS AMG.” It allows to continuously lower the SLS AMG between 0 – 25 mm and the even lower SLS AMG Black Series by 0 – 20 mm, while all active driving modes of the adaptive AMG sports suspension remain in operation. Thus it is easy to adapt an attractive set of rims individually to the wheel clearance. Compared to regular suspension kits, the driver is not limited to a fixed height with the height adjustable KW spring kit. The continuous adjustment of the lowering happens directly at the KW spring seats. Due to the KW Hydraulic Lift System, the SLS AMG Black Series still has sufficient reserves to increase the ground clearance in everyday life by the push of a button. “It will take less than 5 seconds per axle.” explains KW Product Manager Johannes Wacker. “If for example a lowering of 20 mm is selected, the body lifts enough to be 25 mm above the level of the standard height of a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series – and this can often help a lot.” Shipment also includes a control unit that will be connected to the on-board electronics of the super sports car from Affalterbach. Reaching 80 km/h, the hydraulic cylinders are set back to the original level.
